Mr. Abiodun David has been sentenced to six years imprisonment with hard labour, for presenting himself as an officer of the Nigerian Customs Service.
In a judgement delivered by Magistrate Taiwo Oladiran, in a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ibadan, the accused was charged on a nine-count of obtaining money under false pretence, fraudulence, conspiracy, stealing, forgery and impersonation.
David (20), who was prosecuted by Mr. Sunday Ogunremi on behalf of the Nigerian Police Force, has been swindling unsuspecting Nigerians of their hard earned money, by parading himself as a Custom officer in charge of auction.
Ogunremi told the court that the accused and others still at large had sometimes in May 2018, defrauded one Babalola Tunde the sum of N805,000.00 with the pretext to supply him a Toyota Highlander which he never did.
This offense, according to Ogunremi was in contrary to and punishable under section 516, 419, 108 (2), 467, 390 (9), 419, of the Criminal Code vol.II laws of Oyo State Nigeria.
In response, David pleaded guilty, claiming his unemployed nature pushed him into committing the offence.
His plea however fell on deaf ears as he was sentenced to six years imprisonment with hard labour, to serve as deterrent to others.
